Тропикальность и фронтир: образ джунглей Латинской Америки в североамериканской pulp-литературе в межвоенный период
Статья посвящена анализу репрезентации джунглей Латинской Америки в американской pulp-литературе 1920–1930-х годов. В центре внимания — формирование устойчивого образа тропического леса как морально маркированного пространства в рамках дискурса тропикальности. На материале произведений Хайатта Веррила, Артура Фрила, Роя Нортона и других авторов pulp-журналов (Adventure, Weird Tales, Amazing Stories) выявляются устойчивые тропы: джунгли как пространство фронтира, природной избыточности и опасности, разрыва с цивилизацией. Показано, что в изученных журналах джунгли служат не просто фоном для повествования, но и «зоной контакта», где современный субъект сталкивается с экзотической природой и архаикой, а также важной частью формулы произведения, cвоеобразным антагонистом, столкновение с которым формирует представления о свободе, мужестве, силе и цивилизации. Таким образом, массовая литература участвовала в производстве и популяризации тропикального взгляда на Латинскую Америку в американском массовом сознании.
